Kubotan - a type of weapon used for self-defense originating in modern Japan. It is a reduced version of yawara, introduced to the market by Sōke Takayuki Kubota, who is also the author of a system of fighting techniques with the use of kubotan, which is a part of Gōsoku-ryū karate school. The name of the instrument comes from the creator's name. Usually in the form of a cylinder made of hard material, usually worn as a key ring. Kubotan is used both to strike and to apply pressure to points or spheres on an opponent's body. Techniques include strikes or pressure on sensitive points on the body such as the face, neck, larynx, joint joints, bones, and nerve plexuses.
