- Native Chief Cobalt Blue FRN, Satin offers all the refined and proven features of the iconic Native 5 knife, plus an approximately 1/3 longer more efficient and extremely slim CPM SPY27 steel blade. Manufactured in the Spyderco factory in the USA

This product is intended for use only by adults with knowledge and experience in handling sharp cutting tools. Improper use of the knife can result in serious injuries. The blade is extremely sharp and can easily cut through skin and tissue; therefore, extra caution should always be exercised while cutting, and hands should be kept away from the cutting edge. To prevent the knife from slipping, it is recommended to cut on a stable, non-slip surface and avoid excessive force, which may cause uncontrolled blade movement.
Leaving the knife on the edge of a table, countertop, or in easily accessible places—especially where children are present—poses a significant safety risk. The knife should always be properly secured after use, ideally by placing it on a stable surface or storing it in designated knife blocks, protective sheaths, or magnetic strips. The knife should never be used for tasks it is not designed for, such as opening cans or prying objects, as this can damage the tool and lead to dangerous accidents.
A dull blade increases the risk of injury, as it requires more force and is more likely to slip from the material being cut. Therefore, it is essential to sharpen the knife regularly to maintain optimal sharpness. Additionally, proper cleaning and drying of the knife are necessary to prevent corrosion and bacterial growth. Periodic inspection of the handle and blade is recommended to check for cracks, chips, or looseness. If any damage is detected, the knife should be repaired or replaced immediately.
When using the knife, focus solely on the task at hand—avoid talking on the phone, watching television, or other distractions while cutting. Ensure proper lighting in the workspace for better visibility and control. Please note that some countries or regions have laws restricting the ownership and carrying of knives. Before purchasing or using this knife, verify that its use is legal in your location according to applicable regulations.
Following these safety guidelines will help ensure safe and effective knife use, minimizing the risk of accidents and extending the lifespan of the tool.
Native Chief Lightweight Cobalt Blue FRN, Satin is an excellent example of the craftsmanship and precision with which Spyderco approaches the production of its knives. Inspired by the classic Native 5 model, this knife offers an approximately one-third longer blade made from CPM SPY27 steel. This material, developed specifically for Spyderco, combines outstanding wear resistance with excellent cutting edge retention, ensuring consistent performance even in the most demanding conditions. Handle made of lightweight and durable FRN composite in Cobalt Blue, providing a secure grip and high resistance to mechanical damage and weathering. The structure has been reinforced with a steel skeleton, which increases strength while keeping the weight low. The balance of the knife and the ergonomic profiling of the Handle allow for prolonged work without hand fatigue. Made in the United States, the Native Chief Lightweight is a product created for the most demanding users who value reliability, precision and modern design.
CPM SPY27 - a proprietary blend of alloys, including vanadium, molybdenum, niobium, nitrogen and cobalt. The high-alloy stainless steel contains 1.4% carbon and a 1% admixture of niobium (Nb), one of the best carbides, which contributes to the steel's wear resistance. Thanks to its properties, the steel holds sharpness for a very long time and guarantees aggressive cuts for a long time. It is easy to sharpen, corrosion resistant and contains a high admixture of 14% chromium. It provides good strength and cutting edge retention, as well as a fine-grained structure. Produced by US Crucible Industries using the particle metallurgy / Crucible® Particle Metallurgy (CPM) method. The CPM process creates a very homogeneous, high-quality steel with excellent dimensional stability, grindability and toughness compared to steels produced by conventional methods.
Blade - Plain smooth blade brought out with a Full Flat Grind. Enlarged 14 mm round SpyderHole cutout (Spyderco patent) for ambidextrous thumb opening. Refined, precision-machined Back-Lock Blade locking mechanism guarantees extremely smooth operation. The notched thumb rest (upper jimping) on the back of the blade and the Finger Choil (an undercut for the index finger between the Handle and the cutting edge) make it easier to control the knife.
Handle - profiled, covered with non-slip textured grips in Cobalt Blue, attributed to the Blade with SPY27, provides a comfortable and secure grip. Non-slip bi-directional textured covers (Bi-Directional Texturing) and notched notches on the back of the Handle (Spine Jimping) strengthen the grip even with wet hands. Made of FRN (Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon), a fiberglass-reinforced nylon plastic. The covers are attached to a stainless steel spacer / connector for the Handle grips (backspacer), which provides strength and rigidity to the entire structure. Polished steel metal clip with four-way (up/down, right/left) 4-way clip positions. Enlarged cord hole in the back.
