Designed in 1847, it was introduced into the armament of the army US as a model 1851 Navy. The reputation of Colt Navy revolvers reached England, where in 1852 Samuel Colt built the only factory outside the United States. The revolver has a milling on the underside of the grip to accommodate an optional fixed wooden flask # NSS44 (Navy Shoulder Stock). Flask turns revolver into handy rifle.
