The rounded shape is extremely effective, the Hawkbill blade mimics the way an eagle's talons tear - piercing and cutting.
The shape of the blade allows full control over the object being cut, keeping it on the curved sharpened edge, preventing the object from slipping off the end of the blade.
Blade - with Hawkbill profile. Made of good sharpness retaining, molybdenum-vanadium 8Cr13MoV stainless steel (similar in properties to the Japanese AUS-8). Spyder blade with Hollow Grind. Comet-shaped cut-out (Spyderco patent) for quick opening of the blade. Back-Lock of the blade with protection against accidental release of the lock during firm grip, cut-out in the lock designed by David Boye.
